It has been a busy and exciting year for Texas born songbird, Giselle Grayson. Relocating
back to Cincinnati to record her album was a difficult choice. "I needed to find my focus
and close a chapter in my life that had no clear ending… had I not come back, there are
songs on the album that would never have been created… for that, I am grateful that I've
had this experience." Creating her debut album, Fallen Angel, away from her home in Los
Angeles, Giselle was able to define her vision and work with several wonderful production
teams. Most importantly she found a home within a network of friends and family.
They continue to walk this journey together in support of each other and the dreams
and music they hope to share with the world.
The first release off the album, "Baby Just Don’t" , developed its own sound in the studio, later to be described as ‘Heavy R&B’. Recorded only one month after a devastating break up, this song embodies the aggressive strength a person feels when they discover they've been deceived by someone they were close to. This song ultimately set the tone for the album and the recording style Giselle polished in the studio. "When I can't deal with something, I throw myself into my music… it has become my therapy. The pain and the love are very real, and I hope that sincerity comes across not only in the lyrics, but in my voice."
Possibly the most aggressive song on the album, "Get Away from Me" developed its own sound in the studio, later to be described as ‘Heavy R&B’. Recorded only one month after a devastating break up, this song embodies the aggressive strength a person feels when they discover they’ve been deceived by someone they were close to. This song ultimately set the tone for the album and the recording style Giselle polished in the studio. "When I can’t deal with something, I throw myself into my music… it has become my therapy. The pain and the love are very real, and I hope that sincerity comes across not only in the lyrics, but in my voice."
Committed to writing soul inspired music and at risk of being emotionally vulnerable as an artist, Giselle has recorded a compelling ballad titled "Don‘t Be Afraid". Penned during the loss of a longtime love, the song documents the fear that ultimately destroyed the relationship. So many times in music we hear about a woman needing to be rescued by a man, but in this case, the ballad expresses her deep desire to protect him and be understanding that he won't always be strong and fearless. "I would love for a man to be able to express how he really feels when he's afraid, to me, that takes a lot of strength. This song is so close to my heart and was the first in a long line of lyrics to help me heal through the pain of losing someone who was once a very special person in my life. It is my favorite song on the album."
Giselle gets back to her southern roots, putting her heart and soul into the sexy, sensual blues track, "I Found You"… most commonly called ‘the blues song’ at practice, this is where Giselle truly earned her nickname of ‘sexy white chocolate’. The great state of Texas should be proud of their native daughter for this song stands on its own and greatly speaks to her heritage!
During the recording of "Unforgiving Kind", Giselle flew to New York City to record at Lobo Studios where artists like Genuine, J. Lo., and Destiny’s Child have recorded. Originally recorded in 2003, this particular song was put on the shelf for three years, and although the remix made its way to Europe and thrived in the underground club scene, it wasn’t until 2006 that the decision was made to rerecord the song for Fallen Angel.
A surprisingly tender tribute to a very special man in her life, "Not This Time" is a passionate ballad uncovering the heart break that exists when the one person you love is the one person you can‘t be with. "Caught Up" explores the sexual heat existing in the temptation of ‘forbidden fruit’.
Whether she's embodying the façade of seductive Hip-Hop party girl ("Guy Like You"), the irresistible Blues-hearted woman (the inspirational power-ballad "Don‘t Be Afraid"), the helpless lover (the smooth, seductive R&B Ballad "Just Like That"), the female-empowering feminist (the powerful guitar-driven "Get Away From Me" & the ladies anthems "Don‘t Come Knockin" and "Unforgiving Kind"), the troubled soul sister (the emotional blues ballad "I Found You"), or the broken-hearted advocate for underdogs, outcasts, and abused girls ("Danger to Yourself"), Giselle pulls off every role with breathtaking results that remarkably differentiate from one another. "My Last Breath", "Damn Shame" & the subtle "Only" add an eager tenderness intended to inspire listeners to save themselves from the complications of life and heartbreak and stay true to themselves.
With Fallen Angel, the beautiful singer/songwriter proves that not only does she have a phenomenal vocal range, comparable to Christina and Mariah, but much like Christina, she has a tender yet powerful ability to express the pains, joys, and emotions of her soul through her lyrics. This album is sure to provide just a glimpse into the powerhouse sure to be superstar she is on her way to becoming! Once you catch this angel, you’ll hope she never falls!
